About lovewell sweden ::
MORE INFORMATION:
Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts was developed by Broadway composer Dr. David Spangler in the USA. His principle idea states that young adults find well-being and grow as individuals by expressing themselves in various artistic ways. Dr. Spangler’s learning method uses musical theatre as a means to nurture and encourage teenagers’ creativity and their interest for singing, dancing, composing, and other areas of the arts. However, the method also focuses on building self-confidence and healthy self-images amongst young adults by providing the tools and opportunities for collaborate creative problem-solving. During a period of three weeks and under the direction of a professional team of artists from both Sweden and the USA, the participants take part in a creative process that results in a piece of musical theatre based entirely on the ideas and experiences of the participants. The final part of the process is the performance of the piece at an actual theatre in front of a paying audience, at which point the show is complete with a story line, songs, choreography, stage sets, professional lighting and sound design, live band etc.
Thanks to local entrepreneurs, the first summer workshop took place in Oskarshamn in 1996 presenting a unique opportunity for cultural and artistic exchange with teenagers from both Sweden and the USA participating in the process. This exchange has continued throughout the years and is now one of the features that makes Lovewell’s musical theatre workshops the most unique ones.
Upon completion of the workshop, the participants will have made friends that last a lifetime on both sides of the Atlantic ocean.
Lovewell is for young adults between the ages of 13 and 21 who are interested in expressing and developing their artistic talents (i.e. singing, dancing, composing, writing lyrics/poetry, script writing, staging, choreographing, filming, lighting design etc.) while simultaneously taking part of a very exciting and unique cultural exchange, which will also greatly improve their English language skills (and their Swedish language skills for those who are not from Sweden).
